She mentioned this is actually a recipe her grandmother, Emma Vanegas, used for the “salpores de arroz”. It is super easy to make, all the ingredients are placed in one bowl and there is no equipment needed. It only takes about 30 minutes to have them ready.
What is Salpores de arroz
These are rice butter cookies. Made with rice flour, butter, and sugar. They are soft, crumbly, and part of the repertoire of Salvadoran sweet bread.

How to make Salpores de arroz (step by step)
- In a medium size bowl, add flour and butter cut in small cubes. Make sure the butter is room temperature to make the combining process easier. Using your hands create a dough. You can also melt the butter in this step.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and continue to combine them using your hands.
- Using a cookie scoop or a measuring cup, shape cookies to your liking.
- In a lined baking sheet, place the cookies and bake at 375 F for 20 minutes.
