Simple pie crust recipe (five ingredients)

I love a simple pie crust recipe! The possibilities are endless. You can create savory pies, sweet pies, mini pies, and other desserts that will fill your home with delicious food.

What is pie crust

Pie crust is the base shell for various recipes. These shells are made with mainly flour and butter. These two ingredients combined make the best hard shell to sustain any flavorful mixture. It balances the flavor of your dish and it bakes prior or at the same time with the mixture or the ingredients you are using.

Butter

All purpose flour

Granulated sugar

Salt

Iced water

How to make pie crust (step by step)

  1. Cut cold butter in 1/2 inch size pieces and put it on a bowl. Add flour, salt, and sugar. and using your fingers combine until a coarse consistency.
  2. Add water little by little and massage it until barely combined.
  3. Make a rough ball and using plastic wrap, wrap it leave it on the fridge up to eight hours, or if you are in a hurry, place it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Take out and roll out to your preferred shape.
  5. Bake time will depend on the pie recipe. Blind bakes usually take 25-30 mins.

Tools

I am using my hands to combine butter and flour, it could take around 5-10 minutes. But you can use a food processor or a pie cutter if you have any of those available. That will save you time and effort.

How to store

You can store in the fridge for up to eight hours. Freeze for up to six months. To use frozen pie dough, bring it out to a room temperature for about three hours, or place it in the fridge overnight.

Notes

  • 1. You can use salted butter, you will need to adjust the salt in the recipe to 1/4 tbs. instead.
