Proven beef liver and onions

What is beef liver with onions

This is a typical dish in El Salvador and so easy to make. It does not require many ingredients and beef liver is exponentially less expensive than meat, which makes this dish very affordable and nutritious to feed crowds.

I personally love the flavor of beef liver, it is more like a smoky meat with more of a crumbly texture. I understand that it could be one of those learn to love taste, but I truly recommend it.

Simple ingredients

Liver

Onions

Mustard

Worcestershire sauce

Olive oil

Salt and pepper

Tomato sauce

How to make Liver with onions (step by step)

  1. Start by defrosting your liver, once is defrosted, season with salt and pepper.
  2. Cut onions in ring shape.
  3. In a pan at medium heat, add olive oil. Add liver pieces and cook for about four minutes each side. Take them out of the pan.
  4. In the same pan, at low heat, add onion rings. Add mustard and Worcestershire sauce and cook until translucent stirring occasionally (about four minutes). You can put the lid on to soften the onions a little bit.
  5. Add liver back to the pan and add tomato sauce –I like naturas ranchera, and a 1/4 of water. The idea is that all the ingredients can take time to combine flavors. Cook for 10 more minutes with the lid on, and at low heat.
  6. Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, couscous, or just pair it with a green salad. Enjoy!

How to serve

Serve with cooked rice, couscous, smashed potatoes, or simply with a green salad.

How to store

Store in an airtight container for about three to four days. Do not freeze, the consistency might change in the freezer.
